Tricks of the Trade  To camouflage a little extra around the middle, I’ve got the best trick for you, which I learned in Europe a few years ago after delivering my beautiful set of twin boys! Try wearing a light weight cami under your clothes to smooth you out! I prefer the ones that are 100% cotton so that they don’t stretch, gives a little extra oomph.

Our very own Christiana, Stylist for POLISHED, has recapped last week’s Tommy Hilfiger Fall 2010 collection that featured both men and women’s designs. Known for his squeaky- clean, classic all-American designs, Tommy Hilfiger’s fall collection was named “Preppy with a Pop” where he chose classic styles (circa 1985)and  fused it with  current “pop” for women and men. Focused on ‘wearability’, Hilfiger chose ivy league-inspired styles including khakis, flannel shorts, pea coats and cardigans. Layered styles for women and men included rich colors such as heather grey, camel, green, and navy, which are perfect for the fall, in all natural fabrics such as leather, cashmere, flannel and mohair. For women, snakeskin bags, duck boots and skinny belts were common among the accessories. Once again, Hilfiger knocked it out of Bryant Park and scored one for the modern prep!

1) Tights Galore From red and green, patterned and polka dots, the louder and brighter the tights…the better!

2) Fall Colors The color palette is simple- stick to navy blue, crimson, ivory and a mustard yellow for accents.

3) Tie it with a Bow Neckties on blouses are the perfect layer beneath blazers or a high-waisted mini skirt.

4) Collarless &  Boxy Blazers Reminiscent of the blazers originated by Coco Chanel, these timeless blazers can be worn to a corporate event or casually over jeans.

Maybe my logic behind this purchase was that buying this dress would make spring come faster.  The problem is when I finally received the dress in the mail, I didn’t think I could wear it anytime soon.  How could I winterize this? I was stumped. What was a fashionista to do? Bring in the professional, Robin. Slightly annoyed with myself, I tweeted the dress to her asking how on earth I could pull this oh-so-springy ensemble off in the dead of winter. (Was that even possible?)  In 40 short  minutes, she had created a whole look on polyvore and directed me to this ingenious look.

Robin paired the shift dress with leggings (my favorite!) with these thigh-high boots or as I refer to them the ‘I have arrived’ boots.  Since no outfit is polished without the necessary accessories, Robin selected this bangle set, light pink earrings and a bold ring. She choose two purse options: an oversized Marc Jacobs bag for day and this crocodile skin clutch for night. The cherry on top was this double-breasted, black jacket, which is essential in this bone-chilling weather. Voila! Robin performed her magic with a few clicks and an eye for fashion. It just goes to show you even a POLISHED gal needs a few lessons from the expert from time to time!

Carolina Herrera’s collection evoked memories of when the word ‘Supermodel‘ was first termed  in the early 90s and names like Naomi, Cindy and Claudia were mere beings of intangible beauty.  This collection brought deep rouges, coppers and okra colored floral prints flowed seamlessly from one piece to the next. Voluminous sleeves in blouses and dresses added a dramatic element to the collection as well as the  the incorporation of fur details. Trumpet silhouette evening gowns  dazzled with its meticulous beading and ruffle details. The models wore a smoky eye with accented cheekbones in hues of copper and burnt orange, while the hair was a smooth,  polished straight line  parted down the middle and behind the eyes.
