Spring is finally coming, and this is the trend report for the POLISHED woman. During the next couple of weeks, the stores will be receiving the items you need to revive your wardrobe for spring. So ladies it’s time to start planning and compiling a focused list of must haves. When shopping, remember to buy items that fit your style profile, or run the risk of never wearing them. You want to make sure that the shape, color, and scale work with your body. Fit is always most important, so don’t be afraid to employ a tailor for minor adjustments this season.

The POLISHED trend report was developed to assist our clients and blog readers in making their Spring 2011 Style boards. Take a look at some of the hottest trends that rocked the runway back in October…

I’m totally loving the Jersey and Yule. I always recomend to my clients that they have two types of boots:

1. The Basic Boot (Similar to the Kirsten and Kirby above) - to wear everyday.

2. The Fashion Boot – That makes them feel like a total rock star!

Fall 2010 Fashion Trend That ROCKS!

One of my favorite Fall 2010 fashion trends is the studded pump! This is a must for my wardrobe. Years ago when I relocated to the Washington DC region as a Designer Bridge shoe buyer I realized pumps ruled the streets of DC. I could not keep enough classic pumps in stock, and I seriously doubt if this has changed.

I absolutely love the Kimi pump, by Rachel Roy. I am not sure if it’s the heavily decorated studded accessories that I saw punk rockers wear growing up in the Bay Area, or the fact that the pump is unexpected for me and I love to throw people for a loop! Whatever the case, I can’t wait to rock this trend with everything from my boyfriend jeans to my classic and edgy business suit…

FALL 2010 WARDROBE PLANNING

Okay ladies, although some people have a personal style that appears effortless, the truth is, “To look that effortless, takes effort”. Therefore it’s time to start the early planning of your Fall 2010 wardrobe.

The fashion industry has been getting ready for months. Designers have been working on collections since last spring; the collections were shown during New York Fashion Week in February of this year for the entire world to see. The buyers have carefully selected their merchandise from the runways, and it’s currently being delivered to a retail store near you.

So, now it’s time for us to do our part! At the beginning of every season I work with clients to create a personal style story board. The storyboard is filled with trends and looks pulled from fashion editorial magazines such as Vogue, Marie Claire, In Style and more which they love. Remember, the key to building a fabulous and fierce working wardrobe is filling it with items that make your hart throb!

To get started you’ll need a piece of white paper, scissors, double stick tape, and stack of current fashion magazines and your favorite store catalogs.

Once your story board is created it acts as a guide to do the following:

1. Take inventory of what you already own (So you don’t over spend)
2. Build a list of what you’re going to need (So you don’t get overwhelmed with shopping)
3. Spot the items you’re going to need in stores (remember pre-fall merchandise is already being delivered)
4. Act as a guide when getting dressed when the season starts (Tape it to your closet door)
5. Build confidence (Because you took the time to focus your style and image for the Fall 2010 season)

Trend Spotlight: Stacked Platform Pumps

There’s something about a stacked, platform pump that just silently screams ‘I have arrived’. What is it about these pumps that we just can’t get enough of? Could it be the extra inches make us take our strides with more confidence and purpose as we tower above those below? Or is it because these lustful shoes are versatile – both office-appropriate and sexy simultaneously. Regardless of the reason, we are thankful to the Fashion Gods for having this trend transcend yet another season and continue to be ‘in’ for Winter 2010!

If you seek comfort AND style, then these are for you! The platform provides more stability then a pair of stilettos and therefore are more comfortable. So if you’ve been contemplating whether to make a purchase of these sassy spikes, we say go for it!

The Little Black Shoe

Everyone has heard of the “little black dress” (LBD), but what about the “little black shoe”? Matter of fact, what about the “little black statement shoe”? I believe every woman should have a little black statement shoe just because black is classic (of course) and because it’s just plain sexy on everyone! I picked out a few black statement shoes which are quite fabulous (I must say) and are perfect for any ol’ soiree.? My favorite pair in the bunch are the Christian Louboutin Pigalle 120 Patent Pumps (far upper right hand corner)…duh!! Next, are the Jil Sander suede platform court shoes (first row, second shoe) because they’re like an oxymoron—unique, yet plain…I like to call them conservatively funky. The YSL patent platform slingbacks (second row, far right) are my third fave…I’m a girly girl, so I adore the bow! Which one(s) do you like?

Since New Year’s is this week, I know that most of you probably already have your attire picked out and ready to go…but for those of you who don’t, here are a few looks to get you headed in the right direction! Be colorful, fun, flirty, fem, and most of all, be fabulous for the new year! I recommend bright colored dresses in yellow, fuschia, teal, red-orange, pink…or floral prints. Oh, and of course you can never go wrong with sequins at a new year’s party (when worn in moderate increments).? Also, a good heel is a must (whether it’s on a pump or boot).
