{POLISHED} New York Fashion Week Favs…

Wow! As I walked the streets of New York during this Fall/Winter 2012 Fashion Week I got excited. Why? Because for the first time in years, I saw women walking around in color! In the fashion industry we wear black (black suits, black pumps, black shirts, black pants), you can say it’s our uniform. However, when I see color worn well, I know a person has confidence and to me that is everything!

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen the runways covered in sophisticated color. I’m not saying totally ditch your neutrals, but do get inspired to start adding some {rockin} color now. Check it out…

2011 Emmy Style {Red}

I truly loved all the red dresses that hit the red carpet during the 2011 Emmy Awards. Red is a hard color to wear, especially if the shade is wrong for your skin tone. But these lovely ladies definitely got it right.

Koto Momolu – Spring/Summer 2012 Collection

Last week while DC was dealing with rain, rain, and more rain. I ran away to New York to attend a few meetings and shows for New York Fashion Week. Their was one show I refused to miss, as a person that has loved fashion my whole life KORTO MOMOLU is what I consider the TRUTH!!!!!!

Their are very few designers that just make my heart stop, I don’t know if it’s her sophisticated inclusion of prints or luxury eye for great fabric. But whatever it is I want her to keep doing her thing. Korto is one of the few black designers that has a presence in the mainstream fashion world, and trust me she’s not going anywhere any time soon.

Relaxed Looks from {Resort 2012}

When I attend fashion week shows in NY and other events, I’m always looking for the hottest new looks for my clients. I don’t care if I’m just walking down the street or sitting in a runway show. Inspiration comes from everywhere, especially when you least expect it!

I treat all of my clients like I’m their personal buyer. As a Designer Bridge Buyer of a major department store it was always my job to create the best assortment possible on the selling floor. So I’ve transitioned that thought from a selling floor to my clients closet. The first thing I ask myself every season is, “What do my ladies want to communicate this season?”

Everyone knows Polished Stylist Christiana Greene (@polishedcg) is amazing! I instantly fell in love with his collection at first sight! So, with fall right around the corner, I just had to pick a fierce “JACKET” to feature on the blog today. Fall/Winter 2010 – Tailored Looks

The trends of Fall/Winter 2010 are all about classic sophistication, and sharp clean lines. It takes basic silhouettes, and quality classic pieces to make any wardrobe functional, regardless of the fashion season. Therefore I highly recommend, all women take advantage of the opportunity to get their core wardrobe in shape. Focus on buying classic silhouettes that are in the right cuts, fabrics, and colors for you!

Gucci Fall/Winter 2010

Tailored looks ruled the runways during New York Fashion Week. So ladies, it’s time to find a trust worthy tailor near you, and invest the time and money into getting a custom fit. Often women settle on garments that have a less than perfect fit. We stand in the mirror, and know that the waist should be taken in, and say “This will do”. Ladies hear me clear, our bodies are not the problem, un-standardized sizing in the fashion industry is the issue. So let’s take control of how clothes fit our bodies this season. We need to buy slightly larger garments and have them tailored for a perfect fit.

Many of my clients are surprised to find out that tailoring is not as expensive as they think. Take a look at some of the average costs in the DC metro area below:

Basic Hem – $12 to $20

Waists – $15 to $20

Seam Repair – $4 and up

So, ladies I know we are in the heat of summer; however I am a firm believer that great personal style cannot be rushed. Start taking inventory of what’s in your current wardrobe and start building your Fall/Winter 2010 shopping list today!
