Spring is finally coming, and this is the trend report for the POLISHED woman. During the next couple of weeks, the stores will be receiving the items you need to revive your wardrobe for spring. So ladies it’s time to start planning and compiling a focused list of must haves. When shopping, remember to buy items that fit your style profile, or run the risk of never wearing them. You want to make sure that the shape, color, and scale work with your body. Fit is always most important, so don’t be afraid to employ a tailor for minor adjustments this season.

The POLISHED trend report was developed to assist our clients and blog readers in making their Spring 2011 Style boards. Take a look at some of the hottest trends that rocked the runway back in October…

I am a firm believer that no two women were put on this earth to walk the streets alike, and confidence truly comes to one if they perfect themselves and not duplicate. It is nothing sadder than seeing someone who is pretending to be confident and fabulous. At a glance you can see straight through them, they themselves are not yet convinced of the public persona they are trying to project.

An essential step to developing personal style is to invest the time to define your style personality. You need to determine where fashion fits in your life. Is your approach to fashion more classic, dramatic, artistic, natural, updated, or maybe a combination?

Determining your personal approach to style and fashion will assist you in determining the correct trends and looks that are appropriate for you. A classic woman will never wear a Mohawk, and for a natural woman to wear a pair of high heel shoes they must be comfortable.

The look below is one that I created for a sophisticated woman who is 65% Updated and 35% Classic. If you’d like assistance understanding your personal style don’t hesitate to contact me!

Every time I think its 2011, I just can’t believe it. I think the fact that I’ve been growing a business and raising small children for the past 3 years makes the time go by so fast. I’m almost sure I’m not alone on that!

For many, including me, the beginning of a New Year is a time for fresh starts and new opportunities. Therefore I want to take the time to urge every single one of you to look in the mirror and say, “I’m beautiful just the way that I am”. That’s right, I said it. Trust me my body has seen better days, but honestly I’m to vain to just look like anything! I like to look well put together, you know “POLISHED”.

I will never forget the day I came home from the hospital from having my twins. I looked in the mirror and said “Oh Lord”. Prior to getting pregnant with the twins I was a perfect size 10, I had no problem returning to my normal weight after my first son. But honestly the twin pregnancy for me was much different. It took about 6 months of walking around the house feeling bad for myself to say, “Hey, enough of this, it’s time to get dressed”. I realized, as long as I did not accept my body I was going to look a mess! At the time I was a size 20 and I’m currently a size 14, but I’ve looked and felt great coming down in size every step of the way. Somedays I would get all dressed up with no place to go, nap time was glam time for me! (life of a mother)

So, regardless of what weight loss goals you have this year don’t wait to look fabulous, start looking fierce TODAY!

Polished Image Tip #1: Look in the mirror and truly except your body for what it is today!

Stop wishing you were someone different, you’re beautiful just the way you are. The time has come for you to stop doubting yourself and get dressed as you are!

If you’re petite, shop in the petite section, you know those pants legs are too long for you. If you’re plus size, make sure that your clothes truly fit and are appropriate for your shape. The best fitting clothes are those that skim and flow with your body line, regardless of what size and shape you are. Consider hiring a tailor in the New Year, small investment for huge impact.

Also, for the body parts you don’t like, always dress them plainly and refocus people’s attention to what you want them to see! Love your face? Wear nice distinctive jewelry and eye catching pieces. Have nice legs? Wear more skirts and dresses.

Make 2011 count!

Do you ever wonder why some women appear to always look fabulous? Why is it that every time you see them they look effortlessly put together, updated without being trendy, and confident to their core. The truth is that these women have invested the time to understand what truly works for them and why.

So many women choose to only put an effort towards getting dressed for a special occasion or an evening on the town. What about how you present yourself to the world every single day? The truth is the only way you will master personal style is by developing morning daily rituals that honor your individual beauty! I recommend to all my clients that they follow the same process of grooming, dressing, and putting on basic makeup every day.

In 2011 I charge all of you to reconnect with your own beauty and discover the daily rituals that ensure you look naturally fabulous every day. Here are a few tips to get started:

1. Pick a body wash with a scent that rejuvenates you in the morning, and moisturize your body with creams or oils based on the current condition of your skin. (I recommend creams during the winter months, and oils during the summer months)

2. Makeup is great, but make sure that you have everything you need to apply a natural 5 minute look stored in one place. Natural makeup is appropriate every day all day; therefore invest in good quality products.

3. Coordinate your look (clothes and accessories) the night before to make sure you don’t waste time in the morning. When planning your outfit think about what your day will consist of? (Meetings, evening dates, casual outing, etc.)

Marie Denee, Editor and Chief TCF

Marie Denee is a plus size fashion and style expert. Experienced in retail for over ten years, working in various retail stores as a stylist, fashion expert, or assistant manager, Marie Denee lassoed her life experiences both studied and learned to bring her dream into fruition.

While working in retail, she observed the lack of fashionable options – the contemporary, highly fashioned, impeccably fitting, high quality fits that work for a woman’s curves. Shopping became an art- learning how to sniff out the latest designers that “get it.” Evidenced that she was not alone, which at times was a relief but even more a frustration, she questioned, “If there are women out here like me, why aren’t designers catering to our needs?”

Fast forward to her postgraduate days in college and her entree to store management, Marie Denee learned about the inner workings of retail and how choices are made to clothe the modern day fashionista. Marie Denee dedicated her Masters to research what was available and who was available in the Plus Size industry to answer OUR plea. Thus, The Curvy Fashionista was born. After completing her studies, Marie Denee set out to share with all the Curvy.Confident.Chic. Fashionistas she could reach that “we CAN don the latest and greatest of trends, fashions, and styles that are made with US in mind!”

Since the launch of The Curvy Fashionista, Marie Denee has interviewed some of the industry’s leading designers, models, and pioneers as well as championed the latest fashion trends, entertainment news, and body image issues within the plus community. In addition to interviews, Marie Denee has had her hand in the production of the Bay Area’s Kiss the Curves fashion show and New York’s successful Full Figured Fashion Week™ and Week(end)™. She continues to style plus size women and share fashion tips and trends on The Curvy Fashionista.

Marie Denee has also contributed as The Curvy Fashionista on plus size fashion trends and tips for Vogue Curvy, Signature 9, PLUS Model Magazine, Examiner.Com for Plus size fashion, Focus on Style, and The Fashionable Housewife amongst others. Marie has been featured in Sonsi, SF Chronicle, SF Bay Style, NBC Bay Area, MyLifetime.com, Hungry by Crystal Renn, The Style Sample, in addition to many others.

It?s the New Year and we are all ready for 2010 to be filled with new opportunities and new beginnings!

The 5 steps below are for those of you who wish to refresh and renew their Style & Image in 2010. ?You only have a few seconds to make a first impression, but it can take a lifetime to change a bad one. ?So follow the steps below to ensure you ?Rock it out!? in the new year…

Step 1: Look in the mirror and truly accept your body for what it is today!
Stop wishing you were someone different, you?re beautiful just the way you are. ?The time has come for you to stop doubting yourself and get dressed as you are!

If you?re petite, shop in the petite section, you know those pants legs are too long for you. If you?re plus size, make sure that your clothes truly fit and are appropriate for your shape. ?The best fitting clothes are those that skim and flow with your body line, regardless of what size and shape you are. Consider hiring a tailor in the New Year; a small investment for huge impact.

Also, for the body parts you don?t like, always dress them plainly and refocus people?s attention to what you want them to see! ?Love your face? Wear nice distinctive jewelry and eye catching pieces. Have nice legs? Wear more skirts and dresses.

Step 2: Dress for your future!
If you have goals that you want to obtain in 2010, truly look at your appearance and ask yourself this honest question. Do I look the part? If not, commit to making the change! ?Invest the time and energy in getting your style and image together to ensure you have a confident and polished look. ?Be patient with yourself; remember Rome was not built in a day. ?You are your biggest asset, so take the time and invest in developing your personal brand starting today!

Step 3: Develop your personal style
I am a firm believer that no two women were put on this earth to walk the streets alike, and confidence truly comes to one if they perfect themselves and not duplicate. ?There is nothing sadder than seeing someone who is pretending to be confident and fabulous. At a glance you can see straight through them, they themselves are not yet convinced of the public persona they are trying to project.

An essential step to developing personal style is to invest the time to define your style personality. ?You need to determine where fashion fits in your life. Is your approach to fashion more classic, dramatic, artistic, natural, updated, or maybe a combination?

Determining your personal approach to style and fashion will assist you in determining the correct trends and looks that are appropriate for you. ?A classic woman will never wear a Mohawk, and for a natural woman to wear a pair of high heel shoes, they must be comfortable?

Step 4: Define your power color!
Gone are the days of all black, at least for now! ?As color continues to play more of a roll in our wardrobes we need to know how to wear it. ?Everyone does not wear color the same, a beautiful color on one person, can look absolutely dreadful on another.

The goal when wearing color is for people to see you, not exclusively the color! ?There?s a difference between a person saying ?That shirt looks nice on you? and ?nice colored shirt?. ?Don?t let the wrong color overwhelm you.

Pay close attention to the color of the items in your wardrobe that people compliment you on. Most likely the color resonates with the specific color tones that can be found in your hair, skin, and eyes. Therefore you need to incorporate more of it into your wardrobe. ?I highly recommend getting your personalized colors done by a seasoned professional.

Step 5: Take time out to get your Style and Image POLISHED in 2010!
If you don?t take time to develop and cultivate yourself, who do you think will?

Everyone has heard of the “little black dress” (LBD), but what about the “little black shoe”? Matter of fact, what about the “little black statement shoe”? I believe every woman should have a little black statement shoe just because black is classic (of course) and because it’s just plain sexy on everyone! I picked out a few black statement shoes which are quite fabulous (I must say) and are perfect for any ol’ soiree.? My favorite pair in the bunch are the Christian Louboutin Pigalle 120 Patent Pumps (far upper right hand corner)…duh!! Next, are the Jil Sander suede platform court shoes (first row, second shoe) because they’re like an oxymoron—unique, yet plain…I like to call them conservatively funky. The YSL patent platform slingbacks (second row, far right) are my third fave…I’m a girly girl, so I adore the bow! Which one(s) do you like?
