Winter Outerwear {Wardrobe Audit}

The first day of winter was yesterday, December 22^nd to be exact. So it’s definitely time for women around the Washington DC metro to make sure their winter outerwear wardrobe is together. As the temperatures drop, I urge you to audit your current closet to ensure the proper items are in your current wardrobe. This will ensure that your personal style does not suffer during the harsh winter weather. Remember, your personal image and how you’re present yourself to the public is important regardless of your lifestyle (Stay at home mom, working professional, or retiree).

I have listed the items you need to keep you warm and absolutely polished below, happy audit!

Heavy Coats: You need a coat that layers over a sweater of light weight sweater well. No need to feel like a sausage, go up a size.

Coordinating Hat, Scarf, and Gloves: Currently oversized scarves are the trend. I also love when the scarf is of a print in the proper scale and color to compliment a person’s natural coloring and features.

Boots: I recommend that you invest in 3 pair (1. Rain/Snow Boot, 2. Dress Boot, and 3. Casual Boot), this will ensure you have a shoe for every weather condition and situation. Also make sure they are comfortable, walking in uncomfortable shoes in the snow is the worst!

POLISHED Tip: Don’t be caught with clashing colors, fabrics and prints in public, which can send a message that reads unorganized, or worse low self worth. Try hanging your winter outerwear together in coordinated sets. This ensures that you can access it easily as your running out the door. These days everyone is on the go!

When I attend fashion week shows in NY and other events, I’m always looking for the hottest new looks for my clients. I don’t care if I’m just walking down the street or sitting in a runway show. Inspiration comes from everywhere, especially when you least expect it!

I treat all of my clients like I’m their personal buyer. As a Designer Bridge Buyer of a major department store it was always my job to create the best assortment possible on the selling floor. So I’ve transitioned that thought from a selling floor to my clients closet. The first thing I ask myself every season is, “What do my ladies want to communicate this season?”
